June 2008,
Prom,
Prom Carnival
June 2, 2008 Mommy's Martini is hosting a Prom story carnival. I was hesitant to participate because I was a nerd. I was that girl with the boyfriend in high school. But I adore Mommytime and I HAD to post, just for my hair's sake.
My hair was HARD CORE!
My hair could be blamed for that slight hole in the ozone layer. The one right above Long Island. Yah, that was me. I used Aqua Net, the purple can, or Stiff Stuff about four times a day.
Onto my lame prom story. I was beyond excited for prom. My mom bought me my dream dress. It was $180. It was a fortune. She did not care, she said she wanted me to look great. And I did, look great. For the 90's anyway.
At the time of prom I was dating my high school sweetheart. I had been dating him for two years and we were known as the kissy face couple in school. In other words, we were really sappy. Always holding hands and writing love notes to one another; I was in love.
The pre-prom party started at his house. We had decided to get a limo with three other couples. Everyone else was drinking peach schnapps, (eww right?) I drank Coke. We all piled in the limo where everyone continued drinking. It was the first time I ever saw a flask. But the sappy couple did not drink. And I can't say I wanted to, because I did not drink because I thought it was gross (such a mature word right?). It was not until college did I discover my wooden leg and love for gin.
The prom was awesome, we danced, spoke about forever and he even had the Dj play "our" song by Chicago - Your my inspiration. All my friends make a big, sappy circle and sang "That's what friends are for" by Dionne Warwick and said how we would never lose touch with one another. At the end of the night everyone cried when they played the actual prom song at the end of prom, Hold Onto The Night by Richard "puffy hair" Marx.
After prom we all jumped back in the limo and went out to the infamous Hampton's. We found some random park and ran around in our dresses. The night was beautiful, crisp, and I can remember looking at the stars with "my boy". We were only out in the Hamptons for about 1/2 and hour, then we drove back and had the limo driver drop us off at our houses.
Looking back I laugh at how boring it sounds now, I have no scandal of sex, drugs, or alcohol. It is a bitter sweet to know how naive I was about the world. I was that goodie, goodie girl that spoke of marrying her high school sweetheart. Alas, that is not how that story ended, because that good girl, turned bad.
I now present you my hair and awesome prom dress:

Make sure to check out all the other prom stories posted over at Mommy's Martini. They are sure to be more exciting than mine, but I challenge you to find BIGGER hair. :)

Kim, that picture, but more importantly, the CAPTION is killing me. You actually look quite cute. And that prom dress is wicked, you know, in that Stevie Nicks evil type of way LOL!
I should participate in this, but I did post my prom photo a while ago. Unfortunately, it was so long ago I hardly remember any details of that night at all... or maybe blocked them out because the ex weirded out on me a few years later.

You looked hot. :p
I love Picnik. :)
Dionne Warwick - hahahah!
ha-the hair is definitely priceless...but it was so in fashion back then...hahaha
Love what you've done with the place... very nice. You really do look like Stevie Nicks.
First- OMG! Love the new look and header :)
Second- I would have been so jealous of your hair!!! I woke up hours before school to get my hair to reach new heights ;) And yes, my Aqua Net surely depleted a good hole in the ozone layer...
I love your new design! Wow, your dress cost more than mine...both of them...combined! Haha..
My mom made my prom dress. I think I weighed 100 lbs lighter.
You really rocked that early 90's prom look. I have to admit that I was surprised by the black dress - I'm of the same vintage as you, and there was not a single solitary black dress at our prom, I'm sure. I think my small town was a little too backwater - everyone wore pastels! No chic urban black for us!
personally? i like the coordinating hair accessory!
That hair is beyond HUGE!!
Hey, don't feel bad, I think my hair was pushing 2 inches less the hairspray gave up!
That was fun. :)
**SQUEALS** Oh My Gawd!! You look amazing, and your hair has inspired me. I think I will have to have some Prom Prizes. And I think we will all be hard pressed to find any hair bigger than yours! Please be sure to add this story to the Mr Linky at my place so everyone can marvel over the hair. You look amazing! (Dress is pretty fabulous also, by the way.) I can't tell you how happy I am to have read this as the very first prom story of our retrospective. *tears up* "I'll love ya' forever, babe," or some other high school nonsense. You rock for posting this! (Also, please note my excellent recapturing of high school usage of excessive exclamation marks. They all need to be here, though. You look THAT good.)

What's that, you ask? It's a whole bunch of snot I shot at the screen when I scrolled down to your hair. That? AWESOME. Radical. Hysterical!
My crush on you grows, my helmet-headed friend!
It's a biug snotrocket that did not format properly, and now is not funny. And I am embarrased. ;-)
love it girl- I was so with you there!!!
Your hair is awesome! Best ever! My sister came close but she didn't have enough hair to do all that. And, I totally thought I was marrying my high school sweetheart too. Ha! He ended up going to prison 10 years after high school for being a cocaine dealer.
OMG, the hair! AWESOME! Stiff Stuff was a girl's best friend. I think your prom sounds lovely. I was never the girl with the boyfriend, but always wanted to be!
Damn. I wasn't gonna do this thing, but I too love MommyTime and therefore need to go write this post now. I have no pics (thank God!). Wicked puffy shoulders there!
Bawahahahha! OMG that is too funny, Ok now I guess I need to go dig mine out!
I love prom stories like yours, you MAY think it's naive but it's perfect. Getting shit-faced drunk and popping cherries is so cliche now. Your hair makes me speechless, don't worry - in a good way. Too bad coz ME NO PROM :<
Your dress rocks! Great story.
If it makes you feel any better, I had "wings" in 8th grade that required 1/2 can of Aquanet to hold up throughout the day...and could make me airborn if I leaned over in a stiff breeze. *grin*
Man, I would have killed to have a prom date that looked like you. Also, the best memories are usually the ones that you can tell your children. I'm glad I can still tell my kids my prom memory; which consists of a lot of dancing, a cruise on lake Michigan, and breakfast the following morning.
Your prom story sounds very similar to mine, except more detailed. I remember the boy, the dress, the limo and the song. The end. That's it.
And yes, that dress does remind me of Stevie Nicks!
That is so funny! I am glad we are the same age so we can get each other's jokes!
Still can't find my photos - I think they're somewhere under the house in a box . . . and I still have the little sign made w/glitter that says "Carrie & Brett Prom '90" We should have displayed it at our wedding! LOL!
Love that you wore black. And that hair...epic!
Good girl gone bad! No wonder you rock so hard, woman!
I also had a high school sweetheart at prom. Believe it or not, mine was pretty tame, too.
You were still hot- that dress was the bomb back then! My prom story is sad. Maybe I'll share one day, but I already posted a pic of one dance recently, don't want to scare anyone away! :)
That hair is amazing! I need to keep stories like yours for when my daughter is in HS and is SURE that she is in love and will marry her HS sweetheart. Great story!
I miss big hair like that.
