Today was a glorious day! I woke up at six, showered and jumped on the 7:07 am train on the Long Island Rail Road headed to New York City. My husband was with me but he was going to work and I was going to a quick meeting in the city. After saying our goodbye's I headed uptown.
Today's Thursday Thirteen is about how glorious the day turned out
!(clicking on the pics should bring up a larger version of the shot)
1. After kissing the hubby goodbye I decided to walk the 30 blocks instead of cabbing it. On my journey I saw the crew at CBS studios setting up the morning performance of David Cook (the new American Idol). I don't watch idol, so I did not really care. But figured I would mention it. :)
2.

Walking along 5th Avenue I had to wipe my drool from my mouth because of excessive staring at all the store fronts of the stores I will never be able to afford to shop in.
3.

After a quick meeting, I headed toward the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I met my work buddy Mike on the steps and we headed inside.
4. I have NEVER been to the Met. Yes, I know how sad that comment is to say because I lived on Long Island my whole life. But today I took inside of each gallery in awe. I took my time in each exhibit soaking in the art, the history, the beauty of the pieces of work.
5. My favorite gallery was the Impressionist period.

6. On the roof top of the Met the artist Jeff Koon had an exhibit of a balloon character, a heart and an abstract Piglet. Here are some of those best shots.

7.

My favorite statue was of the
Burghers of Calais. The statues are as dark as the story behind the statue.
8.

After leaving the Met we jumped in a cab and headed into Soho.
9. But traffic in NYC was terrible, so we hopped out of the cab and jumped on the subway.

10.

A quick stop in McSorley's Ale House- the oldest bar in NYC. They only serve Light or Dark Ale. I of course had to have a dark. Yum.

11. Lunch was at an amazing little Cajun style restaurant called Acme where I had a delish blackened chicken salad.

12.

After lunch I passed the brownstone that Will Smith used as his house in I Am Legend.
13. I caught the 2:15 train back to Long Island. It got me home just in time to get my boys. I am excited that I am going back to the city this Sunday for a movie premier, except this time I am bringing my son. It is going to be a Mommy and Donnie day and he is over the moon about it.
**I did all this in less than five hours. It was an awesome break in the ho-hum of my workday.

That sounds like a fun filled day...how cool to do all of that?!

WOW! I have to say I am a little jealous of what a fabulous day you had! All of that in 5 hours? That is beyond amazing!!
You deserve it, and so glad to hear that you had such a great day. Hope you are able to do this more often!
Only 5 hours? Holy cow, woman. Can you say overachiever???
I am an Idol fan. But, it wouldn't have mattered much to me either with everything else there would be to do!
Sounds awesome!
I am drooling over all that visual stimulation. YUM!
Set up sheets on your couch - I'm moving. That's it. I love that city.
Sounds like a fun day!
I wish I lived in New York City...I always imagined it, but unfortunately I know for a fact it's not as fabulous as it seems on Sex & the City...it is just way too expensive :(
YOU LIVE THERE! That is so cool. Okay, so forgive me for this, but can you see the skyline of NYC from Long Island or does Long Island have somewhat of a skyline istelf? it fascinates me. I have never been to NYC, so I can't comprehend it. I have been to LA, but not downtown and to downtown Chicago, but does it compare??
KEEP BELIEVING
What a great day! My brother, sisters and I took my Mom to NYC for her 75th birthday in November. What a blast. I love that city.
Sounds like a wonderful day. I love the Impressionists. I would love to see a work of Van Gogh in person.
My T13 is up, not as exciting a subject as yours. 13 Songs in Heavy Rotation on TLC's iPod
Well it sounds like you had a FABULOUS DAY! :D
I hope you have an even better weekend!
love youuu.
Awesome! I love it when people play tourist in their own areas!
I loved your T13, not least of all because I too was in NYC yesterday! We might even have passed each other on the street without knowing it!.....not that I know where I was exactly (I've only been in NY for about 6 weeks) except to say that we started out in Greenwich Village.
I was meeting my cousin from London. It's typical that we have to travel thousands of miles to see each other!
A very inspiring T13- I'd love to get to some of the places you shared!
what a terrific sounding day!! glad you enjoyed yourself!
xoxo
It all sounds so glamorous! I've never been to NYC but I definitely want to go someday.
Have fun at the premier w/ Donnie!
That sounds like an awesome day. I wish I lived close enough to NYC for a day trip like that.
You sure packed in a lot for such a short time!
I can't wait until hubby and I have a chance to visit NYC. We've never been! We're hoping next year, when the boy is older and easier to leave with the grandparents. =) Looks like a ton of fun!
Kimmy, I tagged you at BuddhaBelle
mmmmm daaarrk aaaale. Remind me not to go strolling thru NYC with you. You won't get me out of that pub. We don't really have those here in LA, so I'd have to take in the whole experience. For a long time. At the expense of everything else.
You had an awesome day!!!
I LOVE NYC, I wish I were only a train ride away! I've never been to the Met either, must do.
What a great day you had... thanks so much for sharing that with us.
And I got hooked on Idol just at the end; I would have loved to see David Cook (or at least hear him)
Oh how I miss NYC. I didn't think that the city would captivate me as much as it did. I was so wrong. It is a beautiful place. What a nice day you had!!!
Sounds like a wonderful day:)
Your blog is a ray of sunshine!
Take care,
Angel
Now that's an effing cool day! I am SO jealous!
Of course you had to go with dark ale. You have good taste, my dear!
I wanna come hang out with you during the day!!!!
What a perfectly delightful day! I LOVE NYC! Am tabbing travel books for my bro who is taking his family for the first time ever in July. So jealous!
That sounds like such an amazing time! I could spend a week in the Met :) That Sunday Afternoon in the Park painting is one of my all time favorites.
Hope you have a fabulous time this weekend!
I have never been to NYC, but you confirm for me that I'm really missing out. My brother recently moved there, and I really have to put it at the top of my priority list to go visit.
Great photos, by the way!
Wow, that sounds like a wonderful day! I am just a tad jealous living out here in no-man's-land!!!
