Thursday Thirteen - Flashback

thursdaybanner14.png

Yesterday Annoyingly Boring had posted an awesome old school TV commercial that brought me back. WAY BACK. Back to when I had to change the TV channel by actually getting up to turn the dial. (we did not get a TV with a remote in our living room until mid 90's) GASP. I shudder at that thought now, HOW did I survived without DVR?

Okay, back to my Thursday Thirteen. Today I bring you my FAVORITE shows of the 80's & 90's. Shows that have been put to rest, but I will forever love and cherish them.

1. Degrassi Junior High (not the one on now.. the old school one.. It was SO cutting edge back then. I LOVED it)

2. After School Specials- Now some of them were uber cheesy, but I loved the one with Rob Lowe. The one where he gets the girl pregnant.

3. Silver Spoons- I swore I was going to marry Ricky Schroeder back then.

4. My So Called Life- Angela and Jordan.. AHHHH.. Loved this show.

5. 90210- Come on this HAD to be on my list.

6. The Golden Girls- This show still makes me pee my pants.

7. Eight is Enough- I secretly wanted to stab Adam Rich though. His character drove me insane.

8. Thunder Cats - HOOOO (thank you Juno for bringing that back)

9. Kids Incorporated - This show started the mimicking dance routines and the fights between my sisters on who was going to play what part.

10. Little House on The Prairie-"Pa, can I ride Bunny into town instead of riding in the wagon?" I can quote this show all day long.

11. Tales from the Darkside- I would sneak this show while my mom was sleeping. I remember it came on at 11 pm. Which back then was SOO late. :)

12. Square Pegs- My love for Sarah Jessica Parker started way back then.

13. Mash- To this day the Dream episode still freaks me out.

What are some of your TV shows from 80's or 90's?

MY SO CALLED LIFE!!!!!! I seriously cried every week and was DEVASTATED when it ended. Still an awesome show.

Glad to help out on the inspiration front!

Last night cable was out, sorta. On Demand was still working. I put on an episode of Who's The Boss. Who's the Boss on demand. I can't decide it that's really good or really bad.

My So Called Life was awesome! Good list!

#2,5 and 6 were/are ALL time favies of mine! I cannot believe that MSCL was only on for ONE season. You can catch re-runs of it on the "N" network, though.

:]

Good list! I'm going to make mine soon!

Unfortunately I've never even seen some of these shows (didn't grow up here) but I do like watching reruns of the Golden Girls, they're some funny ladies!

Did you know that Fergie started out on Kids, Inc? Did you ever see the After School Special with Helen Hunt? She was on LSD or PCP or something and it caused her to think that bugs were crawling underneath her skin so she jumped out of a window.

Can you tell I've had too much caffiene? I'm high as a kite right now!!!

Oh I loved Silver Spoons, Little House and 90210 (although 90210 started when I was in college so I was a little too old for it...but I was still crazy about it).

When I was growing up in the late 70's and early 80's we didn't even have cable - Just 4 stations - the networks and PBS. In fact, my parents didn't even get cable until I moved out! Not fair.

Anyway, I actually wasn't even allowed to watch the Afterschool Specials because they were usually about things like teen pregnancy or some other horror (my parents were very strict). So I hated when they were on because it meant I had nothing to watch.

"Square pegs, square pegs, square, square pegs. I don't wanna wear my glasses. I gotta wear my glasses."

I LOVED that show! No one ever remembers it! I'm so glad you listed it here!

How about The Love Boat and Fantasy Island??

May 15, 2008 | Unregistered Commentervicky

Too funny. I loved Little House and Golden girls. BUT, I loved nothing more than My so Called Life. Thank you so much for the reminder. Oh, goodness that guy was sooo hot. I didn't care for him though in Fight club, blonde is not his color.

I LOVED Little House on the Prairie! And it's so funny that my girls have been reading those books because I wish they could see the show.

Some of my favs were Who's the Boss, Quantam Leap, and Fantasy Island.

Dukes of Hazzard. Hands down my favorite show from the old days.

Oh I LOVED LOVED LOVED My So Called Life. We own the DVDs, I might go rewatch them all now!

May 16, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

1,2,4.5.9 are some of my faves, too. I was also big on Family Ties & then Growing Pains, Cheers, The Real World when it first came out(amazing how long that show keeps going & the kids get wilder and wilder- there's no way I could watch it nowadays), You can't Do That on Television was one I never missed!

May 16, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNissa

As a smaller kid - Different Strokes, Growing Pains (I was gonna marry Kirk Cameron), Whos the Boss, Little House (seen EVERY EPISODE), then on to Cosby Show, Simpsons, My So Called Life (althought I was a lot older when that was on - loved Claire Danes), 90210....

KEEP BELIEVING

May 16, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAngie

Okay, I officially feel old. The only one of these I watched as a 'kid' was MASH, and even then I was a teenager. The others were when my kids were little. *sigh*

May 16, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTara R.

"The Facts of Life" (I so admired Jo's bad-ass-ness) and "Falcon Crest".

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
