Thursday Thirteen

thursdaybanner14.png

Today's Thursday Thirteen is about Photo Project365

I have to thank PG at AnnoyinglyBoring for showing me the ropes of 365. You need to stop by and visit his blog.. he is not annoying nor boring. His photos are constantly improving and I really enjoy his W8Loss Wednesday's videos. Make sure you say hello.

So onto why today's post is about 365.

I am quitting.

Cold turkey.

Here are my reasons why:
1. I work fulltime with no lunch break so that eliminates 8 hours of shooting out of my day Monday through Friday.
2. Driving while trying to take pictures is probably going to get me in trouble sooner or later.
3. I have started to cringe at the thought of rushing home to find something of interest to shoot.
4. My kids have started to call the camera mommy.
5. My husband has run out of wise ass comments on why I am trying to capture a pot of boiling water.
6. My MIL comments every time I hold my camera "Is that going on your thing?" rrrrrrrr BLOG. IT IS A BLOG.
7. I am rushing through dinner and bath time to get photos uploaded and edited in time.
8. Donnie runs the other way when I ask him to take a picture. And then when I miss the picture and ask him to do it again he gives me the "um, no mom I did that already".
9. How many pics of my kids do you really want to see?
10. Quitting was better than being kicked out of the club.
11. It was fun in the beginning but now it feels like another chore. That is not what I want to feel behind the camera.
12. I am such a novice at photography that I take about 50 - 80 pics a day and I barely get one that I can consider using for the post.

And the very last reason I am quitting
13. My hubby last night surprised me with a vacation for our wedding anniversary and after the high of the surprise wore off my first thought was how am I going to post my pictures. Um.. yeah.. that is not what I should be thinking about.

I want to thank every single one of you that have showed me support with your words of encouragement and comments on my photos. It really means so much. And I am not going to completely stop posting photos, it just won't be everyday.
Thanks again for the support!!

Cute post. And, I agree...you should do photography only because you want to...not to push yourself!

Your photography is beautiful! I only wish I could take pictures as well as you do!

You are truly an amazing woman for doing all that you do! I admire you for working full time and taking care of your kids AND trying to keep our blog readers full! LOL You take a break - you deserve every bit of it!

I always find when I am *required* to do something I love, it takes all the love out of it. Good for you for quitting. Now, when we see your pics, we will know it's ones that really struck a chord with you!

I recently started a project 365 and I can relate. I am definitely learning more about my camera, but some days I am just not inspired.

I am thinking of going weekly with the posting instead of daily, which I guess is cheating.

I am right there with ya girly! I didn't officially drop out, but I don't feel it's my duty anymore either. It is what it is. Congrats on the surprise vacation! Where ya going?

March 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCandi

S'alright. We still like you.

Now, I can relate to it being a chore once in a while. But dammit. I am a stubborn rascal.

My 13...
1. I have no real rebuttal here. I only work part time.
2. lol. Well, lets see - today I made a video while driving AND my 365 pic was taken in the car while driving 65 mph!
3. Interesting? Well, you see when your blog is called "Annoyingly Boring?" I don't have to worry about high expectations!
4. My kids, all but the baby are a bit older, and have actually embraced the efforts.
5. My wife just ignores my follies usually anyway.
6. My MIL's boobs made it into my 365
7. Although I have not missed a day yet, there is no law that says it has to be posted same day.
8. see #4
9. Kids are cute, but I try not to rely on them that much - I hear you here.
10. Kick you out? Hell, we still count you as an honorary member!
11. I feel that way sometimes, so I usually just leave the camera for a while. I always have my camera phone (used it today actually) for when that moment 'pops'
12. I have topped out at about 60 shots in a day. I usually like those days.
13. I agree - not what you should be thinking about - but you wouldn't have needed to post them as they were shot.

You made the choice that is right for you. I am glad that you had the experience.

Haha! MIL's comment is hilarious. Your thing? rrrrr indeed. I for one enjoyed your pictures. And pics of the kiddos. But yeah, when your first thought upon hearing about your surprise vacation is about your blogbligations, you gotta just laugh real hard. And then put the camera down. And log off.

Good for you! You have to do what's right, and worrying about pictures is not one. Have fun on your trip!!!

Ok, I think the most important part of this post is that you're going on vacation! I'm so excited for you!!!

March 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMimzie

Those were funny, Kimmy! But I have to reply to #9- as many as you want to share! I love seeing Donnie & Aaron photos!
You're so right, it should be fun, not a chore. Same reason I won't ever try the blog365 challenge. Too much of a commitment.
Congrats on your vacation!! Where are you going?

March 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNissa

I will say I was starting to wonder when the next photo was going to be the one of your beautiful new truck sitting upside down in a ditch.

So, WHERE ARE YOU GOING??? LEAVE US HANGING!!!!

KEEP BELIEVING

I have been loving your photos...but I work too, and there's no way I could imagine trying to take pics every day AND upload and edit them to find one to post. Some days, I'm lucky if I get both a shower and breakfast before I get out the door. Some nights, it's a good night when the dishes get loaded before the next morning. So I don't know how you kept it up for this long. But I'm glad you're not continuing if it feels like a chore -- as long as you keep posting the real gems sometimes. Maybe an occasional post with a photo tip, something from your class or something you did with the particular photo you're putting up, that will help the rest of us hone our skills too? Just a thought..

It's funny how something can overtake your life and slowly start to change your outlook. When I was deep into e-baying, there were times I was more excited about the box and packaging materials that I could re-use than the actual item inside the box I bought!

I know that blogging can become an addiction but to add the photo shoots too can be time consuming.
yes, everything in moderation. Hope you keep up the posts at least once a week.

Oh sweetpea, I would have quit a LOOOOOONG time ago.

Kudos to you for sticking it out as long as you have!

And, ooooohhhhhh a vacay!!! So exciting!

March 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLunaNik

Good for you! I hate to give props for quitting something, but it makes sense. If it's a chore then why do it?

March 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHuckdoll

OK, you don't have to post pictures every day,but don't stop posting pictures all together! Where are you going on your trip?

March 13, 2008 | Unregistered Commentersue

"Is that going on your thing?" Dude that is the BEST quote ever.

BTW... why do I say DUDE so much? LOL

I love that you actually thought THOUGHT about posting pics of your trip. LOL. You are the best.

March 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterOHmommy

You are right! Posting is the last thing you should be thinking about! Congrats on the trip! I think the minute blogging becomes a chore (unless you are paid for it, that is) it is time to rethink the motivation . . .

"My kids have started to call the camera mommy." Hilarious!

Good for you for taking back your . . . um, title!

March 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLaskiGal

Humm...this sounds like a familiar conversation I had with myself once...hehe...I hope you have a wonderful trip...

And remember. Your friends will never mind if you take a day off...

You can't have two...but one will be fine. =) just kidding. Hope you have a nice weekend.

Good for you... when it becomes a chore and not something you just do for fun, it's a good time to re-evaluate. Congrats on the anniversary trip... have a great time!

March 14, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTara R.

I totally applaud you for putting your priorities in order and doing what's right for you and your family! But yes you better keep some shots of those sweet little munchkins coming!
And a trip?!? How FUN! Now what are you going to wear ;-)

March 14, 2008 | Unregistered Commenteramy

I ♥ your photos, but I understand. :)

I support you
But, I am a bit sad
I always like to peek

March 14, 2008 | Unregistered Commenteramy

ya know...you do this "rrr thing" for YOU. I also remember a recent post from you that had a list of all of your recent endeavours (something about an elliptical) PLUS the working Mom thing...no guilt for you!
way to keep it going OR not for the right reasons!

March 17, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterlizzie

Your kids starting calling your camera mommy. All those photos... I don't know how you did it!
You are too funny girl!
I just got back from a short blog holiday myself. It does put things into perspective, stepping away a bit. The 365 thing... I was bad enough with NaBlo so I just did NOT go there.
