Smoking,
Quit Smoking
February 26, 2008
I may have mentioned that I used to smoke. I stopped two weeks before I knew I was pregnant with my three year old. I never went back. Except when I escape and go out with friends I will enjoy a cigarette or two and it is usually when we get together to have cocktails. It gives me that connection to the “BC KIM” (before children).
The last time I smoked was almost two weeks ago when I attended a friends wedding. The reason for the post is that I normally go back to being a non-smoker again with ease. But lately all my mind does is drift back to wanting to enjoy a cigarette. Like when I am driving in the car going to drop off /pick up the kiddies, I have the radio on, my own quiet thoughts and I feel my mind wishing I had a cigarette in hand like in the old days. Or when I grab that first cup of coffee in the morning.
I know it is so much healthier that I am not smoking and I really do not want to go back fulltime. But I am wondering why all the sudden the cravings? It has been over four years that I have actually had these kind of intense cravings. Why now?
The obvious answer for me would be maybe the stress of life is making me want to smoke, but my stress level really has not changed so much. I live a pretty Ground Hog Day movie kind of life. Wake up, dishes, laundry, shower, daycare, work, daycare, dinner, bath time, story time, bed time, blog time, and bed. Repeat five days a week. Schedule varies on weekends.
I need it to go away though, because I find the more energy I put towards the thoughts the stronger the cravings become. Okay, thanks for listening, reading, ahhh you know what I mean. Thanks for being here. J
POOP UPDATE:
Last week I made a post about my oldest son Donnie and his challenges with going poop on the potty. I wanted to share with you another comment made tonight while trying to get my three year old to go poop on the potty. The reason why his poop would not come out tonight is that “it is looking for its pocket book”. Where does he get this stuff?

I totally get it! I've only been a non-smoker for what...a month and a half now...and it still hasn't gotten any easier. Seriously, I crave a smoke every damn day multiple times a day.
But I don't do it. I know I will regret it.
So, my advise to you...
Just say no!
Hang in there hun..I can totally relate too. I was a smoker until I missed my first period while preggo with our daughter, and quit cold turkey. I absolutely crave smokes every now and then during drives, after meals, walking down the street... even after 2.5 years. You could be craving to break up routine?
My dad stopped smoking close to 40 years ago, and he says he still gets the urge to smoke... usually after a big meal or if he's been drinking. But, he didn't go back either. Neither should you!
Love the 'toon! And the Donnie line! Hang tight on the no smoking thing!
That poop story is hilarious. Yes...where DO they get these things?
Hang in there with the cravings. You can do it. I'm sorry it's tough now, though.
Hang in there! I am sure that after some time they will subside again.
You crave it because it's a crazy addictive narcotic that hits the dopamine centers in your brain, that's why. Also, it's totally awesome. And I don't care who says what, it's cool. In a Robert Smith sorta way.
DON'T DO IT, DUDE. You will be in the year long quitting hell I have been in if you do.
DON"T DO IT.
PS: Stealing that image. Straight up lifting it. I'll totally hook you up with a link. ;)
I smoked for a few years in my late teens, early twenties. I haven't had a cigarette in 10 years. Despite that, there are moments when I'd totally love to have a smoke. They're usually related to a particular activity or event in my life. However, I've never given in to that urge. I don't believe you can be a "social smoker", so I've never tried to go that route.
I hope your cravings pass. And I'll echo the all-knowing Mr. Lady: DON'T DO IT!
My aunt who was a BC smoker and is now 50 (yes, my Aunt Deb who has been my subject matter twice in the last 5 days) has a similar issue with smoking. She said she started to get more craving and actually started back up when she would have occassional cigs with friends when out here and there. Well, those nights out became more frequent when her son entered high school and was out all the time, himself. She sees a hypnotist now (swears by it) and doesn't even have the occassional innocent social cig.
KEEP BELIEVING
I smoked a ton of cigarettes when I was petrified of losing the girls that week. And I never smoked cigs before. I was just so stressed and it kept me calm and busy. :(
Oh I just drank a mess o Jack. I should not have read your post. I am in no shape to drive to 7-eleven. Oh so tempting! Especially after therapy... yeesh.
GAH. I am in the middle of quitting, and I've been doing pretty well. I fell off the wagon & started again, and then went back to quitting. I did have some on Saturday night when out with the crew, but, I have only had three since then. It's so HARD to quit.
As for the poop, where DOES he come up with that stuff? ha ha ha.
:] glad you liked your award and thanks for the congratulations!
Non-smoker for over ten years this time, and sometimes I could eat one.
LMAO at poop -- now I know what's really happening in our bodies! It's all just so simple!
Personally, I don't know how you've managed to stay a 'social smoker'. I have cravings sometimes when I drink, but everytime I've given in, I can't stop the next day.. I haven't smoked in a little over 3 years now, and there's no way I'd go back. It's just too addictive, and I don't have major willpower. I hope your cravings stop, hun- I know how those go!
Donnie is so cute! I just love his poop excuses!
your son kills me!! he is hilarious!! his pocket book!!
as for smoking...ugh! you know about my little secret...which shall remain nameless...and...i'm so with you!!
xoxo
I hope your cravings pass. My dad nearly died of double pnuemonia 30 years ago and quit smoking cold turkey. He says he still has days when he wsihes he could have a cigarette. Hang in there...
OMG! Donnie is a blogger in the making. He is hilarious!
Now, don't go smokin, girl. It's not worth it.
are you prego? kidding!
Ugh! The smoking urge never goes away?! I'll never be able to quit! After four years of not smoking (regularly), I hope that you can fight the urge to start again! I quit once, for a month. I was really, REALLY upset with myself for failing. Hang in there, Kimmy!!
Good for you for resisting even when it's super hard.
As for th potty training, I remember Son coming up with nutty things like that too for a while. "Maybe it doesn't want to come out because it's not hungry" -- that sort of thing. Where this comes from is anybody's guess. At least it's hilarious!
That is sooooo funny. Where do they think of these things. I tell you I am usually stupified at the things that can come out of my son's mouth...
I get it, I sooooo get it. I have a love/hate realtionship with smoking and I've found that I've always stayed quit the longest when I've had calm and peace in my life. I quit for over 3 years and started smoking during a stressful situation. Then, if you remember, I recently quit for 3 weeks and started again after a stressful situation. I think I will be able to try again very soon as things have improved quite a bit.
Just don't take another puff while you are feeling this way....the nicotine is so strong and evil.
Ooh, hang in there girl!! I know it's gotta be tough.
BTW, I loved the Groundhog Day reference, live it.
See, I don't get that, maybe because I've never been addicted to cigs, although I used to have one from time to time. How is smoking a remedy for stress?
Sorry you're having those cravings. Sometimes we just want to feel like we felt pre-kids. Or sometimes you just wanna cigarette.
Found you cuz you're linked on my blogher ad.
